FAQ
💡 Getting Started
What makes your masks different from regular dive masks?
Every Nix Dive Mask is made from a 3D scan of your face to ensure a leak-free seal, even for people with unique facial features like deep temples, surgical scars, or muscular atrophy. If the first version doesn’t fit perfectly, I’ll revise the design until it does — no extra cost.
How do I get started with a custom dive mask?
Visit this page to upload your 3D scan. All you need is a smartphone or camera. Follow the guide and try to keep your head still and eyes fixed on a distant spot while recording.
What if I’d rather send a physical mold?
You can! If you're familiar with using Smooth-On or other silicone molding materials, you're welcome to send a mold instead of doing a video scan.
🔍 Prescription & Lens Options
Can you make prescription lenses?
Yes. Just upload the prescription from your optometrist — no need to convert it or include any extra data unless you’ve been told you have prism or special corrections.
Can I send my own measurements?
Sure! But keep in mind that the lenses I make are designed to work with my custom-fitted masks. I don’t sell lenses separately for other masks.
Why can’t I get flat lenses in polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate has a minimum base curve, but I can source flat glass lenses
👓 Lens Materials & Protection
What are the differences between lens materials?
All lenses are optically clear but vary in durability:
- Polycarbonate: Lightweight, impact-resistant, less scratch-resistant.
- Tempered Glass: Scratch-resistant and durable, but heavier.
- Sapphire: Extremely hard and highly scratch-resistant — great for rough use or heavy-duty diving.
Do the lenses protect from the sun?
Yes. All lenses block UV rays and harmful parts of the sunlight spectrum — think of them as sunscreen for your eyes.
🏗 Frames & Build Quality
What are my frame material options?
- Aluminum: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant.
- Titanium: Ultra corrosion-resistant, hypoallergenic — best for saltwater exposure or sensitive skin.
- Cobalt Chromium: Strong, durable, good for progressive lenses.
Will the aluminum corrode in seawater?
No, the aluminum is corrosion resistant, However, titanium offers even better resistance to saltwater corrosion, and the cobalt chromium alloy provides the best corrosion resistance.
Can you reinforce the mask for unusual face shapes?
Yes. I can integrate internal metal structures into the skirt to help it seal properly around concave areas or deep temples.
📦 Order & Delivery
How much does a custom mask cost?
Pricing is available here: Custom Dive Mask Product Page. Prescription lenses, specialty materials, and extra design work may increase the cost.
How long does it take to make my mask?
Typically, around 2 months from scan submission. If I need to revise the mold or add internal supports, it might take a bit longer.
What if the mask doesn’t fit right?
No worries — I’ll redesign and remake it until you get a comfortable, leak-free fit. That’s part of the guarantee.
🤿 Mask Types & Use Cases
Do you make different masks for freediving and scuba diving?
Yes — the only difference is lens diameter and volume:
- Freediving masks have smaller, lower-volume lenses for minimal air consumption.
- Scuba masks have standard lens size and field of view.
